Restaurants in Helen, Georgia top notch
With all the Helen GA attractions that are available to visitors, one could hardly ever get bored. You name it; this small Alpine style village nestled up in the Northeast GA Mountains has it.
Tubing has become the biggest attraction in Helen GA to date. There are two main tubing operations located here. One is Cool River Tubing, and the other is the Helen Water Park tubing. Everyday weather permitting hundreds of hot visitors jump on a pink or green tube at the starting point upstream, and float for several hours down a lazy Chattahoochee river winding down amongst all the shops, hotels, and small patio diners through this small mountain resort. This is an excellent way to spend a hot day, the water is cool, and most of the journey is well shaded under mountain forest cover.
Miniature Golf has also become a favorite among visitors. Helen GA offers three miniature golf facilities, Pirate Cove, Hilltop, and Alpine Miniature Golf. Each facility has varying advantages, for example, Pirates cove is the most modern, and located closest to all the other main attractions in Helen GA, Alpine Village offers a much larger and roomier course along with a unique scenery as well as a really nice fifties style ice cream shop serving first class hand dipped ice cream, and hilltop offers a spectacular mountain view, a nice evening breeze, and typically low traffic.
Trout Fishing has still held its place as being a hugely popular activity in Helen GA There are miles of well-stocked trout streams with the Chattahoochee section running directly through the city being open year round. The streams are mostly stocked with good-sized rainbow trout, and even the less experienced trout angler can fill up a stringer pretty quick.
Probably the main attraction here for visitors outside of tubing is the gift shops. Helen GA has over one hundred unique gift shops offering gifts from cheap souvenirs to high quality collector and art pieces. On any given weekend, the streets here are filled with hundreds of visitors simply strolling in and out of all the various shops while munching on snacks such as fresh made fudge, to hand dipped ice cream, to hot dogs and pizza.
Don’t eat before you get here. Helen GA offers a plethora of foods from funnel cakes, to all sorts of sweets and handmade candies, to fresh fudge made right before your eyes, to some of the most unique small patio caf style diners overlooking a cascading mountain river. The restaurants offer menu items ranging from a slice of pizza, to little known German delicacy’s, to outstanding sandwich shops, and even delectable steaks, and excellent Italian dishes. Many of the restaurants here also offer beer, wine, spirits, and mixed drinks. So trust me, you want to arrive with an empty stomach.
There was a time years ago that Helen GA was mostly a place to go for just a day, but now with all the added attractions, and nice hotels ranging from budget to first class, visitors find that it’s very easy to get up here, and be well entertained for three four and even five days at a time, and leaving with a desire to return soon.
